The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Malaysia, the Republic of Indonesia and the Kingdom of Thailand hosted a commemorative reception in Kuala Lumpur to mark the 35th Anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan. The event celebrated Tajikistan’s achievements since independence while highlighting opportunities for stronger diplomatic, economic and cultural cooperation with Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

The reception was attended by senior Malaysian representatives, including YB Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), representing the Government of Malaysia; Tan Sri Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia; and Senator Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Deputy President of the Senate of Malaysia. Members of the royal families of Selangor, Perlis and Johor, representatives of Malaysian ministries and government agencies, the diplomatic corps, business, academic and cultural communities, media representatives, and Tajik nationals and members of the Tajik community from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia also attended.

Business representatives from Tajikistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore further contributed an important economic dimension to the gathering.

On behalf of the Government of Malaysia, YB Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said conveyed congratulations to the President of Tajikistan, His Excellency Mr. Emomali Rahmon, the Government and people of Tajikistan, wishing the country continued prosperity and development.

In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Ardasher Qodiri, Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Malaysia, reflected on the country’s journey since gaining independence in 1991. He described the 35 years as “an entire era of remarkable achievements”, noting that Tajikistan had overcome serious challenges through political wisdom and the firm leadership of President Emomali Rahmon, the Founder of Peace and National Unity and Leader of the Nation. Under his leadership, the country established peace and national unity and embarked on a path of reconstruction and sustainable development.

The Ambassador highlighted the special significance of celebrating the anniversary in Malaysia, describing the country as a reliable and valuable partner in Southeast Asia. He emphasised that bilateral relations are founded on friendship, mutual respect and shared spiritual values, with opportunities for cooperation continuing to expand in trade and investment, transport and logistics, industry, culture and humanitarian ties.

He also stressed the role of modern diplomacy in building bridges among peoples, implementing joint projects and enriching cultures through the exchange of experiences and values. Confidence was expressed that future initiatives would deliver concrete results and further strengthen cooperation between Central Asia and Southeast Asia.

A key highlight of the reception was an exhibition of national products from Tajikistan and Malaysia, featuring SUE “Tajinvest” and participating companies from both countries. The exhibition showcased production, export and investment potential while creating opportunities for direct engagement among private-sector representatives.

At the Tajikistan pavilion, guests were introduced to nationally produced goods with export potential. Representatives of “TajInvest” held discussions with Southeast Asian business communities on matters of mutual interest, supporting Tajikistan’s profile as a reliable economic and investment partner. A video presentation also highlighted cooperation opportunities in industry, energy, agriculture, agro-processing, logistics, tourism and other priority economic sectors.

The event further celebrated Tajikistan’s history, civilisation and cultural heritage through a dedicated cultural corner featuring traditional national costumes, handicrafts and handmade items. A special programme presented national costumes, traditional Tajik dances and songs, offering guests an appreciation of the country’s distinctive cultural traditions.

The book Pemimpin Dipinggir Sejarah (“Leaders at the Edge of History”), authored by former Malaysian Senator Hussam Musa, was also presented. Reflecting his visit to Tajikistan and its historical and cultural heritage, the book is described as the first Malay-language publication to provide comprehensive coverage of Tajikistan and its contemporary historical heritage.

The reception served not only as a celebration of Tajikistan’s 35th Anniversary of State Independence, but also as a platform to promote its economic, investment, cultural and tourism potential. The participation of business communities, cultural representatives and diplomatic guests demonstrated the importance of continued engagement in strengthening friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan, Malaysia and other Southeast Asian nations.
