Angela Ken: Music, Meaning and the Journey Ahead

Angela Ken’s journey in music has been shaped by quiet determination, self-discovery and a deep sense of purpose that continues to evolve with time. In an interview with Top 10 of Asia, the singer-songwriter shares the moments that have defined her path so far—from learning to navigate her artistry to staying grounded in her personal values while growing in the public eye. As she continues to carve out her identity as an artist, Angela opens up about the lessons, beliefs and aspirations that guide her forward in her music.

Angela Ken is a singer-songwriter from the Philippines who has been in the music industry for about six years. She recently released her first EP titled Panahon. Aside from music, she is also continuing her studies in BA Communication. “Right now, my life is pretty simple. When I’m not performing or making music, I’m a student. I enjoy being able to grow both as an artist and as a person.”

“I was raised by two amazing women, my mother and my grandmother. They always supported my passion for music and believed in me from the very beginning,” shares Angela. “They guided me without putting pressure on me, which taught me to pursue my dreams with confidence and gratitude. They are a big part of who I am today and one of the reasons I always try to do my best.”

A pivotal moment in Angela’s career was when she began to better understand her artistic identity. “I learned that I do not have to say yes to every opportunity that comes my way. Not every door is meant for me and that is okay. That realisation helped me focus on the kind of music I want to create and the kind of artist I want to become.”

“One of the biggest challenges I faced was figuring out what I really wanted for my music and my artistry. There were times when I felt unsure about which direction to take. I overcame that by learning to trust myself and knowing when to say yes and when to say no. It was not easy at first, but it helped me become more confident in my decisions.”

Her faith in God and the people around her keeps her inspired. “I call my fans my Angels because they truly are angels in my life. Their love and support mean so much to me. My family and friends also continue to encourage me,” she says. “Most of all, I believe that God gave me the gift of songwriting and singing and that inspires me to keep going every day. Music never feels like work because I genuinely love what I do.”

Angela always tries to stay true to herself and create music with honesty and respect. “As long as I am not hurting anyone or intentionally offending people through my art, I know I am doing something right. I believe in being kind, genuine and responsible in everything I do.”

“For me, success is understanding why God gave you a certain gift, blessing, or opportunity. Success is not only about money or achievements. It is about making a positive impact, staying true to your purpose and using your gifts in a meaningful way,” says Angela.

One of her biggest dreams is to travel the world and share her music with different people and cultures. “If God wills it, I hope to experience a moment when people from different countries sing my songs, even in Filipino. I think that would be a beautiful reminder that music can connect people beyond language.”

Angela’s goal in the next few years is to give her family a comfortable life and continue growing in her career. “I want to reach more people through my music, create songs that connect with others and keep improving as an artist and songwriter.”

“Always do your best and never stop dreaming. Do not let expectations stop you from enjoying the journey. Be kind to people, even when it is difficult. Stay patient, keep learning and trust God’s timing. Sometimes you have to let go of things you cannot control and simply trust that everything will happen at the right time,” advises the talented singer-songwriter.
