MimiFly has carved a unique space in Malaysia’s music scene as a singer, songwriter, and creative visionary. In an interview with Top 10 of Asia, she talks about her journey from performing with the group One Nation Emcees to establishing herself as an independent artist. She reflects on the experiences, influences, and guiding principles that have shaped her work, as well as her aspirations for the future of her art and the next generation of creators.
MimiFly is a dynamic Malaysian singer, songwriter, performer and creative force. “Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My journey began professionally when I joined the group One Nation Emcees, which gave me my first real exposure to the industry, touring, performing, and understanding the discipline behind entertainment. Over the years, I’ve evolved into a solo artist, focusing more deeply on storytelling, identity, and meaningful expression through music. My experiences in both group and solo settings have shaped me into a more grounded and intentional artist.”

“I was raised with strong values of discipline, respect, and faith. Raised by a wheelchair-bound mother taught me that talent is a gift, but character is a responsibility,” MimiFly says. “Growing up in Malaysia, surrounded by different cultures and languages, I learned inclusivity naturally. Diversity was not a concept. It was daily life. That shaped my worldview and my art. My mother taught me to surrender outcomes but commit fully to effort. That balance still grounds me today.”
Describing a pivotal moment in her career, MimiFly shares, “One pivotal moment in my career was deciding to fully step into my identity as an independent artist and take ownership of my masters. It was both exciting and terrifying. Letting go of a familiar structure forced me to confront my fears, redefine my sound, and truly trust my voice. Choosing independence also meant choosing responsibility. I had to understand the business side of music, protect my work, and build my vision from the ground up. That decision changed how I see myself—not just as a performer, but as a storyteller and creative entrepreneur with something meaningful to say and full ownership of how it’s shared with the world.”
On the biggest challenges she has faced, she explains, “I learned not to conform to trends, expectations, or external pressure. The industry can be loud, and it’s easy to lose yourself. I overcame this by slowing down, listening inward, and surrounding myself with people who respect my vision. Growth came when I stopped chasing validation and started creating with intention.”
“I stay inspired by real life, conversations, emotions, struggles, faith, and silence. I also draw motivation from purpose. When I remember why I create not just for entertainment, but for connection it fuels me even on difficult days.”

Speaking about the values that guide her work and decisions, MimiFly shares, “Integrity, empathy, and honesty. I believe in being truthful in my art and respectful in my collaborations. I also value inclusivity using my platform to represent voices that are often unheard, including the deaf and disabled community, which is very close to my heart.”
Defining success in her own words, she reflects, “Success, to me, is alignment. When my work reflects who I truly am, when I’m at peace with my choices, and when my music touches even one person in a meaningful way—that’s success. Awards and recognition are beautiful milestones, but true success is spiritual fulfilment and positive impact.”
“I dream of creating a body of work that goes beyond music—something multidisciplinary that combines sound, visuals, movement and accessibility, especially for the deaf community. I want art that can be felt, not just heard. Beyond that, I also dream of building a space where talent is guided not only in skill, but in emotional intelligence, financial literacy, and spiritual grounding. I believe the next generation deserves more than fame. They deserve foundation.”
Looking ahead, MimiFly shares her goals, “I aim to continue releasing intentional music, expand my reach across Southeast Asia, and collaborate with artists who share the same values. I also hope to mentor younger creatives and contribute to a healthier, more compassionate creative industry.”
Finally, offering advice to beginners in her field, she says, “Stay honest with yourself. Learn the craft, respect the process, and don’t rush growth. The industry will try to shape you, but your uniqueness is your strength. Protect it, nurture it, and trust that your time will come. Authenticity is not a trend. It is your foundation.”
