Noorhashimah, a retired architect and lecturer, played a pivotal role in Jamila’s life. She was not only her mother but also her mentor and inspiration. Her passing in June left a void, but her legacy lives on in the breathtaking art that her daughter creates.

Jamila’s journey is unique. Diagnosed with autism at the tender age of two, she faced challenges in communication, particularly with her mother. As conventional schools lacked facilities for children with special needs, Noorhashimah took it upon herself to provide Jamila with an education tailored to her needs. It was through this process that Noorhashimah crafted a curriculum centred around art, a decision that would change the course of Jamila’s life.

Jamila’s art is a testament to her remarkable talent and unwavering dedication. Her detailed sketches, meticulous size considerations, and masterful use of colour have propelled her to international acclaim. The event was graced by Associate Prof Mumtaz Mokhtar, Head of Fine Arts Studies at the College of Creative Art in UiTM Shah Alam.
