Colourful Inspirations – Bayu Somerset Launches Raya 2023 Collection Featuring Vibrant New Designs

Mar 30, 2023 | What's New

Bayu Somerset has launched ten new collections in time for Raya 2023. Among them are Elora, Floral, Tie Dye, Niaasom, BungadanBintang, Merdu, Pop, and Premium Embroidered. Presenting the latest creations are local artists Elfira Loy, Niaasom, Nadiah Halim, Nina Khalil, and Ezlisa Loy.

Bayu Somerset is a Malaysian fashion brand which focuses on crafting Baju Kurung and Baju Kebaya made from cotton. The brand is well-known for its climate-friendly and affordable clothes. Its designs feature the most elegant prints and fabrics. To be just in time for the festive season, Bayu Somerset’s founder and Creative Director, Diana Kamalul, had started planning their fabric designs early – sounding out local and upcoming illustrators Nia of Niaasom and Kirin of Bungadanbintang for special collaborations.

This Raya 2023 collection is a very special one for owners Diana Kamalul and husband Emir Fauzi, as it comes after two years after starting their company which has grown rapidly – achieving seven-figure sales after a year and targeting close to eight in its second. Both of them left their secure corporate jobs as bankers and took a chance on something completely uncertain, and have proven right in doing so – achieving wild success in creating a brand synonymous with comfort and affordability.

According to Emir, Chief Executive, “For the Raya 2023 collection, we are playing with more colourful prints featuring elegant lines. We are excited as it is also the first mother-daughter collection and we have total of 133 patterns to choose from. It is a wide selection and hopefully there is something for everyone at very affordable prices.”

Illustrator Nia, from her brand Niaasom, is a talented and bubbly young individual who collaborated with Bayu Somerset to produce a unique colour palette for their Raya 2023 Baju Kebaya collection. Speaking on perhaps the first of many collaborations to come, Diana says “Niaasom works best with flowers and it seems to fit perfectly into the style of baju kebaya we produce. We had an amazing time perfecting the design and actually producing the fabric. In the future, we are looking forward to working with more local talents, so yes there is surely more to come!”

“In addition to the current physical outlet, we are planning to open a few more in these coming months. We are expanding at a fast pace, but I am confident the team is focused to do their best,” adds Emir Fauzi.

As for the raya pop-ups, you’ll find them at AEON Shah Alam, Melawati Mall, SOGO KL, ISETAN KLCC, Sunway Putra Mall, and Lazada X Riuh. These pop-up stores give Hari Raya shoppers the chance to feel the fabric and admire the vibrant prints up close and personal.
