Top 10 of Asia recently interviewed Lim Kean Lam, better known as K.L. Lim, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of BioV Global Berhad. A former practising lawyer of 29 years, Lim’s journey into the biotechnology sector is both unusual and intriguing, demonstrating a leadership philosophy shaped by discipline, confidence and a deep belief in science-driven progress.
K.L. Lim was once a practising lawyer for 29 years before leading BioV Global Berhad, a cellular biotechnology company dedicated to advancing regenerative medicine and therapeutics through cutting-edge stem cell technology.
BioV Global’s main goal is to make people’s lives better, help them feel more energetic and support their long-term health. They do this by applying advanced stem cell science to create medical fixes, especially for aging and long-term illnesses. Lim emphasises that BioV’s work is built on solid science and big clinical dreams.
He says, “We want to be leaders in new science in regenerative medicine.” BioV Global Berhad is planning two important clinical trials in Malaysia after its IPO – one for aging and one for fertility. Lim explains these trials are key to the company’s plans and show they’re serious about coming up with new things based on proof.
In a pretty short time, BioV Global has really made a name for itself around the world. Lim points out, “In just 12 months, we’ve gotten into over 10 countries, like the Philippines, India, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, South Africa, the UK and Singapore.” This quick growth shows there’s a big need for regenerative treatments globally and that the company can grow well in different markets.

What makes BioV Global different from other biotech companies, Lim says, is their total focus on being good quality and having great experts. He explains, “Because we use the best quality MSC (Passage 2), we also use the best quality control and assurance system.” The people working there are just as important. He adds, “Our team is made of scientists and medical experts,” which shows the mix of skills behind BioV’s research and treatments.
The BioV Cellular Program is a core part of what they offer. It uses new stem cell tech to give treatments that are very specific, safe and work well. These treatments mostly focus on two areas: anti-aging and long-term conditions. The anti-aging treatments aim to refresh cells to slow down aging and bring back energy. The regenerative treatments for long-term illnesses deal with things like diabetes, liver and kidney problems and heart issues.
Lim states, “BioV’s method promises the chance for lasting health improvements for people with degenerative conditions.” He’s careful to say that results can be different for each person, but early feedback has been good. He says, “You can sometimes see initial results in as little as 24 hours, and they might last from eight months to, at most, 24 months.”
Looking ahead, Lim has big, but sensible, plans for BioV Global. He confidently states, “I think BioV is going to be really big in this industry.” Over the next five years, the company wants to be the biggest stem cell maker in Southeast Asia, becoming a regional leader in regenerative medicine while keeping up global quality and rules.
“Keep doing, keep trying, keep doing, keep trying. Key thing is persistence. Because there will be lots of difficulties and issues. You have to be strong enough to get through all of them.”
Beyond growing the company, Lim also really wants to inspire young business people. His advice is simple, but it comes from a lot of experience. He says, “The most important things for a young business person is to have a dream and a goal in life.” He stresses that success rarely happens in a straight line and that you absolutely have to keep going. “Keep doing, keep trying, keep doing, keep trying. Key thing is persistence. Because there will be lots of difficulties and issues. You have to be strong enough to get through all of them.”
