Winner of the Asean Food & Travel Awards 2024, the Malaysian Petroleum Club (MPC), perched on the 42nd floor of Petronas Twin Towers, is embracing inclusivity while preserving its prestige. In an interview with Top 10 of Asia, Manager Charles Abdullah discusses welcoming more members without compromising its elite services and facilities.
The Malaysian Petroleum Club (MPC) has a storied history, opening its doors in 1991 at PETRONAS’ original headquarters in the Dayabumi Complex. Founded by the late Tun Azizan Zainul Abidin, PETRONAS’ first President and CEO, MPC later moved to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, occupying levels 42 and 43. Today, it’s managed by Charles Abdullah, a veteran in the hotel and F&B industry.
MPC offers four types of memberships, each requiring approval from the Club Secretary and General Committee. Regular Membership is exclusive to executives directly involved in oil and gas exploration in Malaysia, while Associate Membership is for those in supporting industries. Corporate Membership allows businesses to nominate up to three individuals for a renewable five-year term. Additionally, spouses of members receive cards that grant full access to club facilities, along with discounts on dining and special promotions.
These exclusive benefits align with MPC’s mission: to create a prestigious space for networking within the oil and gas industry, fostering meaningful relationships that drive organic growth. “MPC aims to build important connections that benefit the industry,” Charles Abdullah notes. The club has also welcomed key personnel from foreign embassies and international agencies, further enriching its networking landscape.
MPC is a member of the International Association of Clubs (IAC), a network of nearly 250 clubs worldwide. This affiliation provides MPC members with visitor privileges at these clubs, enhancing their dining experiences and networking opportunities. “MPC members have access to business facilities, including meeting rooms and workspace,” Abdullah adds. Some clubs even offer concierge services for travel and event bookings, along with unique recreational amenities.
Under Abdullah’s leadership, MPC is venturing into new territories and adapting to modern needs. “Were committed to evolving while maintaining our exclusivity and top-tier service,” he emphasizes. With its rich history and forward-thinking approach, MPC continues to stand as a premier hub for professionals in the oil and gas industry and beyond, solidifying its role in facilitating invaluable connections.
