New Asian Male Singers Making Waves in the Music Industry – The Top 10

The music industry is constantly evolving and the search for new talent is always arising. Record labels are always searching for fresh faces to sustain the music business. Music is such an important part of everyday life and while there is a growth in talent all over the world, Asia seems to be getting the upper hand. Here’s a brief take on Top 10 of Asia’s top new male singers in Asia who are making waves in the music industry. Whether it is pop, R&B, rock or any other genre, these young men certainly do know how to leave a lasting impression, taking the world by storm and winning over their millions of adoring fans.

Darren Espanto

1) Darren Espanto – Philippines

Barely 3 years into the music scene and Espanto has already captured hearts all over the region with his incredible vocals and undeniable charm. The 16-year old was the first of his age to have performed to a sold-out Mall of Asia Arena, followed by another sold-out concert at KIA Theatre. Within a short period of time in the industry, Espanto has already invaded the concert halls of Canada, Australia, Brunei and USA, winning multiple awards from different bodies. If that’s not impressive enough, his debut album even went platinum and he’s still topping record charts until today.

Jason Dy

2) Jason Dy – Philippines

26 year-old Jason Dy is now a successful R&B singer/songwriter but the road to stardom didn’t come that easy. He was a struggling artist and supported himself by being a ‘haranista’, a person who gets paid for serenading girls. His big break finally came when he auditioned for The Voice Philippines and ended up winning the competition under the care of coach Sarah Geronimo. He won the Favorite New Artist award at the 2016 MYX Music Awards and is also a fashion influencer.

Sean Roldan

3) Sean Roldan – India

The multi-award winning, multi-faceted, multi-instrumentalist excels as a singer and songwriter. Roldan developed an original style in songwriting and guitar playing with a blend of Indian folk, country blues, acoustic funk and classical melody influences. He leads the band, Sean Roldan and Friends, an acoustic set-up comprising leading performances and sessions artistes in India. His latest works include the acclaimed award-winning film, Joker, and he is currently amongst the best upcoming composers in the Tamil movie industry.

Sufie Rashid

4) Sufie Rashid – Singapore

Rashid rose to stardom when he became the first ever Singaporean to win Malaysian reality television singing show, Akademi Fantasia. His energetic and fire-cracking performances on stage set him apart from the other contestants and that’s how he clinched the title. He now has a large following in the region, making big waves in the music industry. He capped his first year in the industry with two of the biggest local awards, Singapore’s Most Popular Artist and Singapore’s Most Popular Song at the Anugerah Planet Muzik.

Teza Sumendra

5) Teza Sumendra – Indonesia

Sumendra’s sensational cover songs earned major hits on Youtube and Soundcloud. With an undeniably sexy and soulful voice, he is one of Indonesia’s brightest upcoming singers. Singing is truly his passion and he once mentioned that he has never lived a day in his life without singing.  He is also active in musical theatre, displaying his talent in acting and dancing. He performs for a wide range of events from small-scale performances up to international festivals. He has also performed internationally in countries like Brunei, Netherlands and Australia.

Yen-j

6) Yen-j – Taiwan

The Taiwanese jazz-pop singer has achieved rising success as a newcomer and he is now a big upcoming star on the rise. He started composing music at the tender age of 11 and was given a timeline of 2 years to start his music career by his father, who would have rather had his son study medicine. His career took off and he is now a successful star in Taiwan known for his real-life inspired stories incorporated into his music.

 

Zion T

7) Zion T – South Korea

There is no denying that the talent pool in South Korea is large especially when it comes to singing. Kim Hae-sol, better known by his stage name, Zion T, has gained a large following despite being new in the music industry. He has been featured on tracks by well-known stars like G-Dragon and Zico and has worked with many great artists. He collaborated with R&B singer Crush and ended up winning the award for Best Collaboration at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, beating the more well-established singers whot have been in the industry much longer. He also bagged the Best Vocal Performance that same night.


8) Aiman Tino – Malaysia

Tino went viral after his first single, Ku Rela Dibenci , was released and has been getting a lot of attention in the local music scene. The music video has reached over 30 million views on Youtube and another music video of his, Permata Cinta, reached 10 million views within 2 months. Only 18 years of age, Tino’s fanbase is ever growing and his songs have been making waves in local radio stations. Music talent seems to run in the family as he is the son of Yusri Ishak, a former finalist of local singing show, Bintang HMI.

 

9) Diwakar – India

Dhivagar Santosh has participated in various reality TV musical competitions but is best known for winning season 4 of Airtel Super Singer. He was a fan favorite and ended up winning the competition after a stellar performance and standing ovation after his grand finale performance. Despite being visually impaired, he did not let that disability stop him and he has now won over millions of hearts with his remarkable voice. He is living proof that nothing can come in the way of talent.


10) Timethai – Thailand

Like many of the modern era singers, Dharmthai Plangslip or Timethai was discovered on Youtube. His dancing ability was what caught the attention of record label, Kamikaze and he immediately got signed up. His music video, No More, reached over 10 million views on Youtube within the span of just 5 months and his second single charted at number one in Thailand following a one-month release. Timethai is considered to be one of Thailand’s most popular newcomers and a rising star who is destined for big things to come.
