BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Unveils ‘Saw This Made This,’ Inviting Singaporeans to Stir Creativity and See the Lion City as a Gallery of Creative Inspiration

Declaring a creative call-to-arms, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE is inviting people to discover the inspiration that exists all around, with the Singapore launch of their global campaign ‘Saw This Made This.’

Eight of the island’s top bars, renowned for leading creativity in cocktail culture, have taken inspiration from their home city to each create a unique cocktail inspired by an iconic Singapore landmark. The result is a stunning visual collection depicting the landmark, as captured by Singaporean urban photographer Yik Keat, alongside the cocktail, captured by local photographer Wei Ping under the header ‘Saw This Made This.’

“We believe that creative inspiration is everywhere,” says Maria Kim, Trade Ambassador, Bacardi. “With the ‘Saw This Made This’ campaign, we aim to inspire people to see the beauty and creativity in everyday moments, and the stunning built environment around them that defines Singapore. BOMBAY SAPPHIRE gin has a long standing relationship with artists and creators and its versatility provides a perfect canvas for the creative bartender. We are thrilled to collaborate with these bars and photographers to showcase the incredible artistry that exists within Singapore’s vibrant bar culture and we hope to inspire people to see the world in a new light and unleash their own creativity.”

In collaboration with visionary filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE launched its global campaign ‘Saw This Made This’ in October 2022, inviting people to discover the creative inspiration that surrounds them in everyday life. The campaign encourages people to capture and share on social media what creatively inspires them in the world and what they subsequently create, using #SawThisMadeThis.

Talking about ‘Saw This Made This,’ Baz Luhrmann said; “I truly believe creativity lies within us all. My aim as Creative Director of this campaign has always been to encourage people to see the world as a gallery and unlock a creative part of themselves that they may not have been aware of.”

To bring this message to Singapore, the brand invited bartenders from some of the city’s most celebrated bars to consider some of the landmarks they see in their everyday lives in Singapore as a muse to inspire a cocktail. These landmarks were then interpreted through the lens of Yik Keat (best known by his Instagram handle @YK) one of Singapore’s most successful street photographers and content creators. Creatively inspired by these images, the unique cocktails were then captured by Wei Ping, known as @gluggony on Instagram, a Singapore-based photographer and content producer known for his work capturing food and drink.

“The cityscape and business of daily life inspires me. I love how humans interact with one another and with buildings and their surroundings; that fuels my creativity,” says urban photographer Yik Keat. “Working with Bombay Sapphire, I’ve loved the unique concept of replicating iconic landmarks with drinks so that it transcends visually not only through pictures, but through something that we can consume too. I feel like this campaign is all about reimagining, and re-looking at what we usually don’t notice, like details of the structures, pockets of colours in between. I would love the people of Singapore to look up, look around and appreciate the beauty all over again!”

The eight participating bars were Analogue, ATLAS, Employees Only, Elephant Room, Nutmeg & Clove, Sago House, Stay Gold Flamingo and Writer’s Bar at Raffles Hotel Singapore. Each bar crafted cocktails inspired by highly recognisable Singapore icons such as Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, the Merlion, and the Singapore Flyer. A full list of the bars, bartenders, cocktails and landmarks appears as an appendix.

“It’s very gratifying to be approached by a brand to deep dive into the creative aspects of what we, as bartenders, do,” Nutmeg and Clove’s Michelle Loh explains. “Bombay Sapphire fuels creativity by offering a versatile canvas for crafting unique cocktails. I hope this campaign shows Singaporeans that cocktails are an art form that engages all our multiple senses. Let this be an inspiration for Singaporeans to explore their creativity at home, crafting their own cocktail creations from the everyday sights around them.”
